SHLOHMO | The Way U Do
Happy Valentines Day.
L.A. native Henry Laufer, the 21-year-old producer better known as Shlohmo, is a lo-fi beat junkie and field-recording enthusiast, whose crackling, low-BPM compositions update Boards of Canada’s filmstrip-soundtrack wooziness. Laufer grew up listening to “stuff like DJ Shadow, Amon Tobin, M83 stuff with some sort of cinematic vision.” He started making beats when he was 14, but “didn’t really do it with any sort of purpose until I was like 17 or 18. That was also around the time he and his friends, already fans of Flying Lotus, discovered Low End Theory. Shlohmo has rocketed onto our radar screen in recent months with his lo-fi, psychedelic mix of abstract hip-hop, bouncy synth-funk, and breezy trip-hop.
It’s late night on Valentine’s Day and I’ve been itchin’ for love-make songs. As most of you love birds are out and about enjoying this holiday going out on fancy dinners, dressing up, or just saying “fuck it, let’s just fuck” - this it’s a good track if you’re looking for some slow rhythmic vibes in bed. Shlohmo came out of nowhere with a remix from Burial and from there, I knew he was going to hit it big with his beats and productions. “The Way U Do” starts off in a steady pace and when the track start’s to taper off, about a quarter way in, vocals and the quick hip-hop high hats kick into gear knowing something is going to drop. Yeah, none of that dubstep bullshit. Give it two minutes and wait to start moving yourself all over one another, bodies pressed, and making some sexy shit happen.
Second time listening through, yeah, I want to use this for some love-make to happen.
Shlohmo is impressive LIVE and I highly recommend if you don’t know about him.
Anyways, hope you all had a good Valentines Day. What did you do for Valentines Day?

Evian Christ - Kings And Them Mixtape
It seems like we finally know who the mysterious producer Evian Christ is. Apparently his name is Joshua Leary and he is 22 years old, but what’s more important is this new mixtape called “Kings And Them” released today on Tri Angle Records. Download it at their website tri-anglerecords.com.
Also, this Saturday Evian will make his first live appearance at the Tri Angle showcase.
Thank you based Christ!

SBTRKT feat. Sampha & Yukimi Nagano - Wildfire (Live At Gilles Peterson Worldwide Awards 2012)
This is probably the best live version of “Wildfire” so far. The edit of Yukimi’s vocals and the drums are fantastic. Don’t miss out on this one!
CHAIRLIFT | Guilty as Charged
Damn - okay so I’ve been on this electronic phase lately because I’ve been dying to hear something new lately and there hasn’t been much going on. The non-electro scene has been pretty mediocre lately and I just haven’t been liking anything that’s been released. This though on the other hand caught my attention.
Chairlift is an electropop band which formed in 2005 in Boulder, Colorado, United States. The band consists of Caroline Polachek (vocals, keyboards) and Patrick Wimberly (bass, drums). The third founding member, Aaron Pfenning (guitar, synths, vocals), left the band in 2010.
The first few seconds sucked me into this track already just because of the reverberating twangy guitars. The rhythmic beat behind it and especially Caroline’s voice just settle the tones for the rest of the track. I’ve been into this electronic phase all last week and up to now and this is honestly a good change of pace. This is experimental to a sense and the instrumentals is thriving with jabs of electronic effects and raw blues’y alternative rock. I love it. The other tracks represent a variety of style’s that I’ve been diggin’ so far. It’s weird really. Some I get the feel of 80’s modern day pop/rock feel as in “Ghost Town”, the other’s are very quick and moving like as if Here We Go Magic tripped out on late 70’s and 80’s rock pop music like in “I Belong In Your Arms”. Damn, it’s quick and fun.Caroline’s voice is perfect for this sound and if they ever played LIVE here in Chicago, I would definitely go see them. On that note, Chairlift, come to Chicago. Fuck, they’re fun.
If I had to compare them to a band, I would say
“Put Here We Go Magic and Eleanor Friedberger, replace them with Chairlifts members, trippin’ out on mushrooms in a studio with synths and Chairlift was born.”
Check out the video of “Safari Sidewalk”. Album is out now (via iTunes)
